We can pretend that this kind of thing doesn’t happen in our country, but that wouldn’t be right. We have a big problem that needs to be solved ASAP.

“Armed men believed to be members of the Abu Sayyaf have beheaded a barangay captain of Dapitan City whom they abducted along with two personnel of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), whom they abducted three months ago,” reports by Aaron B. Recuenco in Manila Bulletin.

Rodolfo Buligao and the two Coast Guard personnel, identified as Rod Allain Pagaling and Gringo Villaruz, were taken while they were monitoring the arrival of vessels off Dapitan City on May 4.

Two months ago, a video clip showing Buligao, Pagaling, and Villaruz pleading for help had gone viral in the social media, with the masked gunmen threatening to behead them.

The report noted: “Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado, commander of the Joint Task Group Sulu, said the body of Buligao, barangay chairman of Barangay Aliguay Island of Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte, was found at a road intersection in Barangay Lunggang in Maimbung,  Sulu,  at around 10pm on Tue, Aug 11.”

The people who had beheaded Buligao had left a note on top of the headless body with the barangay chairman’s name. Buligao’s severed head lay on the side. Translated to English, the note said: “The beheading was executed by the captors of the victim when the negotiator did not meet the amount of ransom demanded by the captors.”
