On its Twitter account, Cebu Pacific said it is already conducting a third party investigation on an alleged theft that happened in one of its chartered flights by its flight attendants.

Read the full statement below:

“CEB has been made aware of an alleged incident of theft in one of our charter flights to China. CEB is conducting a thorough investigation in parallel with an independent, third-party investigating body on this alleged incident.

“As part of standard procedure, cabin crew members of the said flight will be placed on paid leave and a non-flying status, pending the completion of the investigation.

“CEB will take the appropriate action, depending on the result of the investigation.”

Chinese media picked up on a hot trending topic on Weibo, the Chinese equivalent of Reddit. Talk had it that flight attendants of the charter 5J52 Cebu Pacific Air flight from Kalibo, Aklan to Changsha, China on Aug 11 allegedly stole a total of 8,000 Yuan or PHP56,000 from passengers on the flight.

According to a translated news story from a Chinese news channel, wenxuecity.com, the passengers were weirded out when the flight attendants allegedly had them bring down the window visors during take-off. They also supposedly didn’t allow adults on the flight to put their carry-on luggage underneath the seat in front of them — a standard operating procedure. Instead, the passengers were instructed to put their belongings in the overhead compartment.

The FAs supposedly kept loitering down the corridor, opening and closing the overhead bins.

Shortly after the plane had landed, three passengers on the flight realized they were missing money that amounted to 8,000Yuan or about PHP56,000.

Passengers of the flight said that the FAs allegedly tried to dodge evidence by flushing some bills on the toilet, and throwing some in the trash bin.

We’re hoping Cebu Pacific resolves this matter quickly, and will keep the investigation transparent to the publct.
