TV host and wildlife advocate Kim Atienza tried to hold back his tears as he reacted to the death of Philippine eagle Pamana. The eagle was shot dead in San Isidro, Davao Oriental where she was freed just two months ago.

Wildlife conservation is something close to Kuya Kim’s heart. In fact, he and his family have invested heavily on programs that focus on the protection of Philippine eagles. He has also served as the ambassador of the Philippine Eagle Foundation for the past 6-7 years, while his wife is a member of the foundation’s board.

“Itong katangahan at ang kabobohang ginagawa natin sa pagpatay sa agila ay nakaka apekto sa ating lahat eh. So, nakakagalit,” Kuya Kim said in an interview with ABS-CBN.

“Bakit natin ito ginagawa? Ano ba? Bakit hindi natin tigilan nito? Bakit ba natin binabaril ang agila? Anong dahilan? Kapag makita natin kung sino man ang gumawa nito, talagang hindi ko alam kung ano ang magiging reaction ko eh. Galit ang nararamdaman ko, inis,” he said.

Kuya Kim feels so strongly about the incident that he has called on his friends to raise money for tips that could lead to the arrest of Pamana’s shooter, who could face six to 12 years of imprisonment and a fine of PHP100,000 to PHP1 million.

“I’d like to invite all my friends na mag put up kami ng reward money, na makapag raise kami ng pera na malaki-laki. Para mabigyan ng reward kung sino ang makapag-tuturo kung sino man ang bumaril kay Pamana,” Kuya Kim said.

Only 400 pairs of the national bird are left struggling for survival.
