Shabu session in Antipolo ends with grenade blast, 3 participants dead

At around 10:30am on on Sun, Aug 23, an explosion happened inside the house of Ronaldo Tupino at TMPC, Sitio Taguisan 1 in Barangay Bagong Nayon, Antipolo City.   

“Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor, spokesman of the Philippine National Police (PNP), revealed that a shabu session involving six people went awry when one of them started toying with a hand grenade,” reports Aaron B. Recuenco in Manila Bulletin.

Two people — Michael Wong and Art dela Cruz — died instantly. The third person — the owner of the house — died in the hospital. Another shabu session participant, Benny Flores is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The victims’ two other companions, identified as Eric Ramos and Joel Starling, managed to run but were arrested during follow-up operation.

The report noted: “The blast was initially reported as an LPG tank explosion but the probe revealed that it was indeed a grenade blast.
Seized from them and from the blast site were  were assorted live ammunition, an M26 grenade and an M33 grenade, drug paraphernalia and sachet with traces of suspected shabu.”

The survivors of the blast will face charges for violation of illegal possession of drugs and illegal possession of explosive materials. It was not indicated who exactly played with the grenade.
