Well, this should definitely shake things up and make everybody excited.

Fil-am LA Laker Jordan Clarkson is included in the 24-point list submitted by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas for consideration in the FIBA 12-man lineup for the 2015 Asia Championships in Changsha, China. The Championships will happen from Sep 23 to Oct 3.

“Clarkson, who was earlier recruited by coach Chot Reyes in the past national team incarnations, has apparently owned a Philippine passport since the age of 12,” writes Randolph B. Leongson on Inquirer.net.

This makes him eligible to be considered a local player for international tournaments.

On Monday, Clarkson arrived to join the Gilas trainings. According to Nelson Beltran of The Philippine Star, Clarkson will also “sign up with Smart Communications as an endorser and at the same time observe the training of the national pool.”

“At the moment, he’s not yet cleared as he has pending issues like the approval of LA Lakers and his FIBA eligibility,” SBP executive director Sonny Barrios clarifies. “But what’s positive is that he’s shown interest and he’s flying 10,000 miles to immerse with us.”

“If he passes FIBA scrutiny, Gilas Pilipinas could be a title contender with a roster led by Andrey Blanche and Jordan Clarkson,” The Philippine Star report notes.

The 24-point list also includes Andray Blatche, Jimmy Alapag, Gabe Norwood, Sonny Thoss, Calvin Abueva, JC Intal, Aldrech Ramos, Marc Pingris, Jason Castro, Troy Rosario, Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, Gary David, Dondon Hontiveros, Ranidel de Ocampo, Moala Tautuaa, Terrence Romeo, Junmar Fajardo, Marcio Lassiter, Kiefer Ravena, LA Tenorio and Bobby Ray Parks.
