Part of NAIA-2 floor collapses, foreigner falls into 2-feet deep hole

A foreigner who had just arrived in Metro Manila was in for an unwelcome surprise.

At the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 arrivals section, he fell into a two-feet deep hotel as the floor he was was standing on collapsed.

Harry William Hansen arrived on board Philippine Airlines flight PR 307 from Hong Kong and was on his way to the immigration counter when the tiled flooring below him gave way.

Fortunately, several airport workers were on hand to extract him from the hole. He did not sustain any serious injury.

“Tinulungan po namin na maka-ahon at inalok na dalhin sa clinic pero tumanggi po siya (We helped him get out of the hole and tried to take him to the clinic, but he refused),” an airport worker said.

The incident happened on Jul 25 but it looks the incident report, erm, fell through the cracks — no advisory was released by the airport’s media affairs division regarding the incident and it was unreported until Aug 25.

Airport employees interviewed by ABS-CBN News showed the photo of the hole where the foreigner fell. They fear that such an incident may occur again if the floor will not be fixed.

They added that airport authorities should investigate why the flooring collapsed.

Dave de Castro, spokesperson of the Manila International Airport Authority, confirmed the incident and said that appropriate actions have been undertaken to prevent a similar incident from happening again.

Our suggestion: Instead of covering up the incident, maybe you should put a cover on the damaged floor?
