The Philippine National Police (PNP) has vowed to exercise maximum tolerance in the protests of the Iglesia ni Cristo (INC).Speaking to ANC’s “Dateline Philippines” Saturday, PNP spokesperson Sr. Supt. Wilben Mayor said demonstrations have been generally peaceful and no untoward incident has been reported.

He added police personnel securing the event are adequate. But they are prepared to deploy more men in uniform if necessary.

The PNP appealed to rally participants to be orderly in their conduct of the protest action.

“We trust the leadership of Iglesia ni Cristo na sila po ay mayroong kontrol sa kanilang mga kasama para naman po hindi maapektuhan at maging inconvenience sa iba nating kababayan sa pagdaraos ng kanilang mass action,” said Mayor.

“We value freedom of expression but of course there are some limitations as provided by law,” he said.

Police pegged crowd estimates at the EDSA Crossing at 700, with more participants expected to join in from southern Luzon.
