Best in Lip Sync: Rhap Salazar, Anne Curtis battle it out

Kapamilya singer Rhap Salazar may have stoked some fires when he blasted lip-syncing celebrities on Twitter.

But on a recent episode of It’s Showtime, Rhap made moves to put that issue to rest by lip syncing and even joining Anne Curtis on stage.

Anne and Rhap first put on a show by lip syncing song numbers through each other’s voices. Anne got dibs on Celine Dion’s “All By Myself”, while Rhap sang Heart’s “Alone”.

The Lip Swak segment then took a turn for the surreal when both of them mouthed Jennifer Hudson’s “And I Am Telling You”. To be honest, Rhap doesn’t need backing for that song because he once sang it with singing sensation Charice. But of course, this time, there’s a different angle at play.

Rhap, winner of the talent show Little Big Star,  had clarified in various instances that he is not personally mad at artists who lip sync and even get albums in the process. He said he was only lamenting the fact that other singers don’t get as much exposure.

Many singers also came to Rhap’s defense, including Gary V. and his son, Gab, and Guji Lorenzana.

Rhap, who also coaches our representatives for the World Champion of the Performing Arts (WCOPA), admits he may have reacted too fast, but said he is glad he was able to share the perspective of other singers.

Anne, meanwhile, has gained a following as a performer despite singing out of key. Her album, Annebisyosa, also kickstarted a series of huge concerts for the Kapamilya star.

When Anne was asked about Rhap’s tweets, she said: “Basta mayroon akong napapasaya, okay na ako doon, okay naman, e.”

Anne also pointed out that she never performed to a pre-recorded track during her production numbers.

It looks like the issue has been successfully swept under the rug, with a new segment to boot! But if Lip Swak measures up with Jimmy Fallon’s Lip Sync Battles? That still remains to be seen.
