Maligayang Christmas: An OPM Christmas playlist from Coconuts Manila

Got a tip? Send it to us at manila@coconuts.co.

Many like to claim that Christmas in the Philippines is the longest in the world. It unofficially starts on Sep 1 — today! — when radio stations begin playing Christmas songs.

It then hits feverish temperatures when Simbang Gabi starts on Dec 16, and continues well past the New Year. In some households, Christmas ends on Three Kings (first Sunday of January), in others, during Black Nazarene. In Tsinoy homes, it unofficially ends on Chinese New Year.

In any case, allow us to ride the tradition and begin the festivities today. Check out and follow our new OPM Christmas playlist on Spotify. It includes Christmas staples “Christmas in our Hearts”, classics like “Ang Bati namin ay Magandang Pasko,” Simbang-Gabi favorites like “Emmanuel” and under-the-radar songs like “Olops.”

And because we are dedicating this playlist to Filipinos forced to spend Holidays away from home, lovelorn classics like “Pasko Na Sinta Ko” and “Miss Kita Kung Christmas”, are of course included. OFWs, this one’s for you.

Even those at home will soon feel homesick with this one.

The season is long, you can expect us to keep updating this playlist. Merry Christmas!
