Part of the reason why Metro Manila traffic gets to bad is because some people just can’t stay off the road.

“The Highway Patrol Group will soon crack down on motorists who violate traffic rules when they drop off or fetch students at La Salle Green Hills (LSGH),” reports Non Alquitran in The Philippine Star.

HPG head Chief Superintendent Arnold Gunnacao pointed out that motorists who fetch students from LSGH often occupy as many as three lanes of Ortigas Avenue. Thus, they cause traffic buildups that last several hours.

So, starting next week, parents and drivers will be limited to lining up near the gates of LSGH and one lane of Ortigas Avenue when they come to fetch the kids. Beyond the LSGH gates, the vehicles who idle on the road will be apprehended and given traffic tickets. The vehicles that are illegally parked in the vicinity of the school will be towed away.

Gunnacao added: “Our request to the parents is that if they reach the tail end of EDSA, please park at other areas because if they reached EDSA, we will be forced to apprehend them because they are causing (heavy) traffic.”

Secretary Jose Rene Almendras has written a letter to LSGH officials and they promised to coordinate with the parents.
