This is a crazy complication.

“The Gabriela Women’s Party has asked the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to investigate the ABS-CBN noontime program It’s Showtime for the exploitation of women,” reports InterAksyon.com.

The report noted: “In similar letters sent last week to the show’s executive producer, Mark Rejano, and MTRCB chairman Atty. Toto Villareal, Gabriela secertary general Joan May Salvador said her organization had received many complaints from concerned citizens ‘alleging that the show seems to be pimping Pastillas Girl to various interested men.'”

The report explained that “Pastillas Girl is the moniker of Angelica Jane Yap, It’s Showtime’s answer to Maine Mendoza, the Dubsmash sensation better known as Yaya Dub on Eat Bulaga.”

Yap gained fame due to her viral video, wherein “she recites a purported recipe for making pastillas (soft milk candy) that segues into a rant against an unfaithful ex-boyfriend.”

In this light, It’s Showtime has a “dating segment” for Pastillas Girl. Her objective is to search for a potential mate (Pastillas Boy) among a number suitors.

Gabriela stated in its letter: “As an organization dealing with the protection and advancement of women’s right, we cannot dismiss such complaints. We have been consistent in our statement that competition to sell the show and the ratings war should not be done at the expense of women.”

At posting time (8:19am, Mon, Sep 28), both the MTRCB and It’s Showtime have yet to respond to Gabriela’s complaint.
