This is why weapons should be place out of children’s reach.

“On Saturday, October 3, a four-year-old girl died from a gunshot wound allegedly inflicted by her eight-year-old sister in Quezon City,” reports Betheena Kae Unite in Manila Bulletin.

The report said that the four-year-old girl was pronounced dead on-arrival at 5:30pm at the Quezon City General Hospital. The little girl had a single gunshot wound in her chest that was “allegedly inflicted by an improvised shotgun (sumpak) that her sister mishandled in their house in Barangay Bagbag, Novaliches.”

Witness Rogelio Trino, the kids’ uncle, related that he heard a gun go off in the kids’ home. He ran to the house and found Jazmine clutching her chest while crying in pain.

The report noted: “Trino told police investigators that he saw the victim’s eight-year-old sister holding the improvised shotgun inside the room where he also found Jazmine. However, when investigators came went back to the kids’ residence to recover the gun, it was nowhere to be found.”

Meanwhile, the mother of the sisters refused to give her permission for the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to take custody of her elder daughter.
