Filipino boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao is gearing up for his Senate run.

“If elected Senator, Pacquiao said that it would mean ‘more work’ compared to being in Congress. Pacquiao, as everyone knows, is one of the perennial absentees from plenary sessions,” reports RG Cruz on ABS-CBNnews.com.

However, the boxing champ defended his work as congressman in his twi terms, saying, “Although ‘di ako masyado nakikita sa Kongreso, palagi ako sa distrito ko. [Sa] State of the District Address, nilatag ko sa kanila mga accomplishment ko 2 termino satisfied naman lahat masaya naman sila sa nakita nila (Although I am not always seen in Congress, I am always in my district. In my State of the District Address, I reported to my constituents what has been done for them and they seemed happy with it).”

For the record, “Pacquiao is a member of 15 standing committees at the lower House and has authored 15 House measures in the 16th Congress, as well as co-authored 27 others.”

Pacquiao went on to say that if he becomes Senator, he would focus on laws calling for lower income taxes and increasing state workers’ salaries.

“Iyan ang focus natin pag tayo ay nalagay sa Senado, ang pagbaba ng income tax, individual income tax, atsaka pag-increase ng salary ng government employees (That would be my focus when I am in the Senate, to champion lowering income taxes and increasing government workers’ pay),” he said.

The report noted: “But when asked if he is retiring from boxing, Pacquiao was non-committal. He revealed he still has one more boxing match before the 2016 elections.”

Pacquiao added that he will also confirm which political party he’ll be running under when he files for his candidacy.

Pacquiao is headed to Doha, Qatar, on Wed, Oct 7, to support Filipino boxers who will be competing to qualify for the coming Olympics.
