In the early hours of Wed, Oct 7, teenage boys engaged in a rumble right in front of the police station along P. Aquino Avenue in Barangay Tonsuya, Malabon City.

The boys — aged 11 to 15 years old — were reportedly members of rival gangs.

Curiously enough, they managed to fight for about an hour and no cop or barangay official came running to stop them. In fact, residents in the area heard an improvised shotgun or sumpak being fired.

An ABS-CBN News crew happened to be in the area. They went inside the police station and saw two policemen sleeping. The cops allegedly only woke up when the news team went in.

In an interview conducted after the incident, station commander Insp. Joseph Dionaldo explained that most of the cops are deployed to focus areas and that it’s usually just the police desk officers left behind to man the station. However, he still said that cops on the night shift are not allowed to sleep.

Dionaldo said the cops who were sleeping on the job will face the consequences of their actions. (from an Umagang Kay Ganda report)
