AlDub and Lola Nidora are the first ever Catholic social media awardees

There’s more to AlDub than just the daily dose kilig and thigh-slapping humor. They also impart admirable virtues and give inspiring messages to their millions of fans.

For that, the Youth Pinoy and Areopagus Communications Inc has selecting Alden Richards, Maine “Yaya Dub” Mendoza, and Wally Bayola aka Lola Nidora to receive the first ever Catholic social media award.

The awarding ceremony will be on Sun, Oct 11 at the 4th Catholic Social Media Summit in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

“This is the kind [of show] that we don’t see on TV anymore,” Raymond Bandril, part of the awarding committee said.

“TAPE productions, the producer of the noontime show Eat Bulaga!, will also be given recognition for producing shows that are ‘steeped in Christian values’,” reports Joyce Jimenez on Philippine Star.

But just when you think the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines has imbibed some pop culture coolness, think again.

“Neither the Permanent Council of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines nor its arm the Episcopal Commission for Social Communications is involved in this award bestowal. The Catholic Social Media Summit is a project of a lay youth group called YouthPinoy and the Aeropagus Communications Incorporated, an initiative of our Catholic youth leaders in social media. While the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines encourages such lay initiatives among so many others, it is not factually accurate to attribute all their initiatives and activities to the CBCP,” Bishop Soc Villegas clarified on his Facebook account.

In any case, the popular love team won’t be together to receive the award. Maine and Wally will be the ones to receive the award in behalf of the “Kalyeserye.”
