Five suspected carjackers were killed in a shootout with police along Payatas Road in Quezon City on Fri, Oct 9.

The Quezon City Police District Anti-Carnapping Group (QCPD-ANCAR) and Quezon City Special Traffic Police Group tailed the suspects’ black Isuzu Sportivo after spotting it without car plates along Commonwealth Avenue, around 9am.

QCPD-ANCAR chief Richard Ang said authorities also noticed that the Sportivo had been following a taxi.

Upon arriving at Payatas Road, the policemen received confirmation that the taxi had been taken from its driver in Cubao, Quezon City earlier in the morning.

Policemen attempted to flag down the Sportivo but its passengers started shooting at them.

A firefight then ensued between the police and the suspects who were armed with improvised sub-machine guns.

Police were also able to recover the taxi, which was being driven by one of the suspects.

Police are still investigating the identities of the suspects.

As of writing, the Payatas Road remains closed to traffic. Motorists are advised to find alternative routes to Montalban and Rodriguez in Rizal. (from a report by Dennis Datu, radio dzMM)
