Why did this photo make so many people angry?

This photo was posted on the official Facebook page of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thu, Oct 8. In the photo, a police officer is shown standing near a sign addressing those in vehicles. The sign reads: “Magsarado ng bintana. Magsarado ng pintuan. Maraming snatcher Quirino/Osmeña (Close your windows. Close your doors. There are many snatchers in Quirino/Osmeña).”

The sign was posted by the Paco Police Community Precinct (PCP).

While the photo may have been posted with the best intentions, people just got angry over it. A Facebook user going by the name Eggnogg Hoult summed it all up when he said: “This way of warning people is so lame… If you are really doing ur job then people will have freedom to open their windows if they wanted to.”

Other comments said the same thing using stronger language.

Bottom line: We know our cops are facing really extraordinary challenges, but sometimes these warning signs just make us feel so powerless. It’s telling us that we have to plan our moves around those of criminals. And, really, that’s no way for anyone to live.
