5 things we want to see during Kamikazee’s December farewell gig

The sad new is, Kamikazee is taking an indefinite leave from the music industry. The five-piece band announced early this year that like Urbandub, it will also go on a hiatus come 2016. They are playing one final show in Araneta Coliseum on Dec 10, 2015.

Details have yet to be finalized but the band is already preparing a list of performers who will usher them to the life outside of music. We’re betting their comrades Parokya ni Edgar and perhaps some members of Urbandub will make an appearance.

“There’s no better way to finish than with a concert alongside many of their best friends in one of Manila’s greatest arenas in front of thousands of the best fans in the world,” Kerwin Rosete, Kamikazee’s manager says.

When Coconuts Manila got word from Spicy Lemon, the producers of the Dec 10 show, confirming that the farewell gig is indeed happening, we initially felt sad, and then our excitement level rose to eleven. Because these boys, they are fcking great on stage. If they’re able to put on one helluva show just for the kicks of it, can you imagine how big a party their farewell show is going to be? We’re betting they’re going out in a bang. Below are five things we’d like to see happen on Dec 10:

1. We want to see vocalist Jay Contreras do the straddle jump. Everybody knows Jay has the moves. He can dance, he can wiggle, he can headbang and boy can he straddle jump. Have you seen him do it?! Dude can give the UAAP cheerleaders a run for their straddle jump money. So much height, and so much power!

2. We want to see them perform “Huling Sayaw”… and see how the rock n’ rollers will behave around the prim and proper R&B singer Kyla. Or better yet: We want to see how Kyla will handle the rowdy boys of Kamikazee!

3. Is it too much to ask for an Angel Locsin appearance? “Narda”, of course, is one of the best and most popular Kamikazee songs. Inspired by Angel Locsin’s portrayal of Darna, “Narda” quickly flew off the charts, and became one of the best and the most popular Kamikazee songs. It was so popular that GMA 7 even used it when Marian Rivera reprised the role in 2008. Can you imagine what a trip it will be if the Darna who inspired the song will be there?

4. We want to see them perform “Lucky”. As in the Britney Spear song “Lucky”. It was a staple during the band’s early years. They made it theirs, they totally owned the song that Kamikazee included it in their first studio album.

5. We want to see Kamikazee do a medley with Parokya ni Edgar. Both bands often appear in each other’s gigs, performing songs like “Chikinini” and “Order Taker” just to name a few, and feeding from each other’s energy, they take the show to a whole new level. This is the finale that we’d love to see: Kamikazee, companied by their comrades, bringing the party to the stage and bringing the house down so to speak. Man, we’re already turning nostalgic and senti just imagining this.
