On Friday, Ayala Land announced it will close Hotel InterContinental after 46 years. The building, designed by National Artist Leandro Locsin, stands on a portion of property that Ayala Land intends to “transform into a modern gateway with a first-of-its-kind intermodal transport facility designed especially for the commuting public,” it said in a press statement.
Ayala Land plans to start redeveloping it come 2016. Mandarin Oriental, another iconic Makati hotel designed by Locsin, ceased operations in Sep 2014.
While the 14-storey InterContinental stands modest among the many buildings in Makati these days, 46 years ago it was like a towering giant in a middle of a flatland.
