Well, that’s a double whammy.
Angel Locsin appeared on Tonight with Boy Abunda Monday and explained why she had to pull out of the upcoming movie remake of Darna: a disc bulge in her spine has developed, preventing her from doing all the hard stunts the role will require.
The Star Cinema movie remake has been a long time coming. When it was first offered to Locsin two years ago, the actress immediately underwent muay thai training.
“Super excited ako, kasi minsan nang naibigay sa akin itong role na to. Gusto ko sanang gawin ito sa Kapamilya network,” she said. Angel propelled to stardom ten years ago, when she first played the role in a TV remake on GMA-7.
But all that eager beaver hard work and intensive training was exactly what led to her spinal injury. It got so bad that there are days when she couldn’t even move, the actress recalled.
Her doctors warned her that if left untreated, the injury could lead to paralysis. At the moment, Angel is undergoing therapy. She said she is considering going abroad for more treatments.
So the question now is: who will replace Angel in this Erik Matti remake?
Well, there aren’t any confirmed reports yet, but Coconuts Manila got word that a barely legal Kapamilya star is being eyed for the role. A clue: She was involved in that drunken flight incident. Okay, let the guessing game begin!
