AlDub makes it to BBC!

AlDub is set for world domination, yo.

With Twitter Asia Pacific, a little known early adapter website from US comparing AlDub to Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, and Reader’s Digest Asia (based down under, if we may add) giving AlDub the proper attention, it’s only a matter of time before Europe gets a whiff of AlDub.

On Wednesday, it finally happened. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) published an article Wednesday, calling AlDub a ‘social media phenmenon’.

“It is surreal and wildly popular show which has smashed global social media records,” writes Heather Chen.

The BBC story noted how Saturday’s #AlDubEBTamangPanahon hashtag earned a whopping 41 million tweets, overtaking the previous record held by the 2014 Fifa World Cup. For insights, the BBC interviewed Daphne Oseña-Paez and BBC Filipino anchor Rico Hizon.

“It isn’t just the local fans. US politicians and even alternative rock bands have declared their love for the show and its young stars,” continues the report.

The BBC made a teeny tiny typo, calling Eat Bulaga! ‘Eat Bulgaga’, but that’s okay. We learned quite a lot from the BBC article: (1) That Rico Hizon is a new AlDub fan and (2) that our dear ol’ Maine “Yaya Dub” Mendoza is actually the third fastest growing celebrity on Twitter, just behind US singers Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.

Mygawd Maine, the levels in which you move!
