The body of 73-year-old Korean national Nwi Seong Hong — who was kidnapped in Zamboanga Sibugay last January and then turned over to the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) — was found in Patikul, Sulu at around 10:30pm on Sat, Oct 31.

“Brigadier General Alan Arrojado, commander of the Joint Task Group Sulu, said the Koran national’s body was found by civilians in the vicinity of the Sulu State College. The body was placed in a sack,” reports Elena L. Aben in Manila Bulletin.

The victim’s body was taken to Camp Gen. Teodulfo Bautista in Barangay Busbus in the capital town of Jolo for post-mortem examination and identity verification. The Korean’s identity was further confirmed by Philippine National Police Scene-of-the-Crime Operatives (PNP-SOCO).

The report noted: “The PNP-SOCO’s initial investigation revealed that the al-Qaeda-linked ASG gunmen had dumped the Korean’s body in the area after he died of an unspecified severe illness while in captivity.”

The investigation is ongoing.
