While the rest of the country going understandably nuts over bullets being allegedly planted in traveler’s bags at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), one senior citizen was caught with a variety of firearms at a ferry terminal in Leyte over the weekend.

Corazon Barola, 61, was arrested in Pingag ferry terminal in Isabel, Leyte last Sat, Oct 31, for bringing in six firearms of different calibers. She had two 9mm Luger TEC-KG9s, two .45 caliber pistols, a .357 Smith and Wesson revolver, and a .33 caliber Smith and Wesson revolver.

“The Isabel police said that security personnel at the ferry terminal accosted Barola when she tried to leave the terminal through the vehicle’s exit,” reports GMA News Online.

The good news is that Barola, a resident of Agusan del Sur, said that she got the firearms in Danao, Cebu and was planning to sell them in Mindanao. If she owned up to it, then it means nobody’s planting firearms or bullets at ferry stations.

Still, Barola is now facing charges for violating Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act. But, hey, at least there’s no “Laglag Baril” scam going on.
