This Filipino guy is Stephen Curry’s personal barber

Meet JayR Mallari, the Filipino dude who cuts the hair of some of NBA’s biggest stars including Golden State Warrior Stephen Curry.

Hypebeast recently released this super cool video on the guy, showing how Mallari went from cutting his friends’ hair — when he was in sixth grade and “only got a pair of shoes for the entire school year” — to becoming the personal barber of some of NBA’s biggest names.

“After four months of cutting my friends’ hair, I was able to buy the shoes that I wanted,” he says of his first barbering triumph. Sure he was able to get himself a pair of Pippens 97, but you can’t knock the hustle out of this guy.

Sometime later, he found himself in Los Angeles, “a Filipino kid who wanted to work at a black barbershop.” He got into Legends Barbershop, continued to cut hair, and soon was in the company of all the great dudes.

Cut to the 4:19 time stamp where Mallari is shown styling Curry’s hair and teaching him how to speak in Tagalog.

It’s all too easy to get trapped in the Pinoy Pride mentality or even to get starstruck because, yes, it’s Stephen Curry. But do yourself a favor and don’t. It’s a story of hardwork, preservance and keeping your cool. Watch it below:
