7 most indulgent chocolate desserts in Metro Manila

Got a tip? Send it to us at manila@coconuts.co.

We scoured every corner of the metro to track down the best cacao-filled creations to find that nothing can quite curb the craving for chocolate like these seven deadly sinful concoctions. These luxuriant and utterly pleasurable finds are filled with chocolate in all kinds of forms, varieties, textures, and temperatures. We just can’t get enough!

1. Cacao That Cares

It’s not all kale and quinoa at vegan and gluten-free restaurant Susi. Their dessert menu is just as tempting as non-vegan restaurants and their Cacao That Cares (PHP315) is luxuriously rich and creamy — sans dairy and eggs. This thick brick of dark chocolate fudge is topped with a runny warm dribble of house-made peanut butter and finished off with a crunchy salted pretzel. Desserts which are a little less sinful and a lot more ethical are always welcomed. Susi, Burgos Circle, Forbes Town Center, BGC, Taguig; www.susi.ph, +63 2 8337874

2. Chocolate Revenge

Maître Chocolatier peddles in all things chocolate, such as packaged European confections Ferrero and Ritter Sport as well as a full menu of cacao-laced food and drink. The Chocolate Revenge (PHP195), however, just might be the most decadent dish offered. This creation consists of a warm lava cake made of 70% Lindt chocolate and chocolate-topped vanilla ice cream which is doused in a thick near-black chocolate sauce. Maître Chocolatier, 28 Jupiter cor Astra Sts, Bgy Bel Air, Makati; www.m-chocolatier.com; +63 2 8978559. Mon-Thu 10am-11pm, Fri & Sat 10am-2am.

3. Build Your Own Brownie Sundae

We’re big fans of Bono Gelato’s super rich (and dairy-free) Cioccolato and Double Chocolate flavours but if you’re up to level things up a lot, opt for their Build Your Own Brownie Sundae (PHP200) which consists of a fudgy brownie topped with your ice cream of choice, two toppings, and two sauces. We recommend to add some crunch with Choco Crumbs and Pretzels and drown it in more chocolate with Chocolate Sauce and Magic Shell. Bono Artisanal Gelato, G/F Mega Fashion Hall, SM Megamall D, Mandaluyong; www.facebook.com/bonogelato; +63 2 6254639. 4. Salted Chocolate Cake

The pairing of caramel, salt, and chocolate is classic; these three flavours enhance each other’s flavors subtly yet powerfully. Wildflour Cafe + Bakery harnesses the power of this trio in one of their signature desserts: the Salted Chocolate Cake (PHP175). It’s hard to miss this towering, glazed dark beauty as it’s massive. In this creation, salted caramel is sandwiched between three layers of moist chocolate cake and finished off with a creamy chocolate frosting. Delicious! Todd English Food Hall has brought a little sexiness to our food scene and their signature dessert gets us hot under the collar. The OMG (PHP420) is a textural delight of all things chocolate and it’s all built around their perfect oozing lava cake. There’s dollops of silky smooth chocolate pudding, crunchy cereal crumble, ice cold chocolate gelato, as well as lashings of chocolate sauce — oh my god! For an experience of the flavors and textures that chocolate has to offer, don’t miss 71 Gramercy’s #LEGIT Chocolate Cake (PHP290). This dessert starts with a fluffy chocolate cake which is then topped with a white chocolate mousse followed by a shell of dark chocolate. The best part of this decadence is when your server pours a hot chocolate ganache onto the centre of the cake, creating a crater of chocolatey goodness. 71 Gramercy, Kalayaan Ave cor Salamanca St, Bgy Poblacion, Makati; www.71gramercy.com, +63 917 809 4093. Mon-Sat 6pm-10pm for dining.

7. Nutella S’mores Milkshake

Available only on the weekends are Crisp on 28th’s newly-launched over-the-top milkshakes which include the Nutella S’mores Milkshake (PHP190). This one’s every Nutella lover’s dream as heaping spoonfuls of the hazelnut chocolate spread are blended with fresh milk and vanilla ice cream. The concoction is then topped with a proper toasty s’more, whipped cream, and chocolate sauce. Crisp on 28th, Alveo Corporate Centre, 28th St, BGC, Taguig; www.facebook.com/crispon28th, +63  917 5846883. Daily 7am-11pm.
