(No) money shot: Street dwellers use sign welcoming APEC delegates as ‘shelter’

The theme for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit that the Philippines is hosting this week is “Building Inclusive Economy is Building a Better World.”

The phrase, “inclusive economy,” indicates that the benefits of a thriving economy should be felt by every section of society.

Well prior to the arrival of world leaders in Manila for the summit, it was reported that street dwellers were “rescued” by the government. While critics accused the authorities of hiding the true state of Philippine economy, the government units involved have insisted that “resuing” street dwellers was not done due to the APEC Summit. They claimed the rescue program had been in place for some time.

In any case, last Fri, Nov 13, Rappler’s photo editor, Leanne Jazul, shared this photo on his personal Facebook page. Does it look like the picture of “inclusive economy” to you?
