Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was asked about the garbage problem (and his good looks)

On Thursday evening, Filipino journalist Tina Monzon-Palma asked Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau the burning question among Filipinos: Is he aware that in 2013, Canada dumped tons of garbage in the Philippines and are they doing anything about it?

The 43-year-old #APEChottie answered: “Yes. I am aware of this and a ‘Canadian solution’ is being developed on waste found in the Philippines. This exposed a problem that needs fixing in legislation.

“I think going forward we need to ensure that if a situation like this were to arise once again… the Canadian government has more power to demand action from the companies responsible. I believe there were loopholes here that were allowed to be skirted and we need to make sure we close both for Canada’s interests and good relationships with our neighbors,” Trudeau said.

Trudeau was then asked the second most important question of the evening: is he aware of his status as an #APEChottie?

Manila Bulletin, on Facebook, took note of Trudeau’s response: “People loved my father. Whatever people perceive me to be, I owe to him.”

His father, of course, is Canada’s late Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, who inspired the Trudeaumania during his time.
