The National Bureau of Investigation has been given until this week to complete its investigation on the bullet planting (laglag-bala or tanim-bala) controversy.

The agency requested for more time to submit its report on the alleged extortion scheme at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after failing to meet the deadline on November 18.

According to Department of Justice spokesperson Emmanuel Caparas, NBI officials on Wednesday night informed Justice Secretary Benjamin Caguioa about the challenges in gathering information amid tight security at the NAIA during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders Summit.

The NBI has yet to gather statements from several government officials which they need for their report.

The Department of Justice earlier designated at least one public prosecutor at the NAIA to handle bullet-related complaints.

The Office of Transportation Security, meanwhile, removed 17 employees from their positions, and has completed its own report on the scandal.
