We hope this will usher in the Filipino age in the International Emmys Awards.

ABS-CBN president and CEO Charo Santos-Concio has been appointed chairperson of this year’s International Emmys Award Gala — the first Filipino to do so.

“I’m very, very proud to represent my company ABS-CBN, and I’m very, very proud also that I am Filipino and I’m here to represent our country,” Santos-Concio tells ABS-CBN.

Says International Emmys President Bruce Paisner, Santos-Concio’s appointment was a clear-cut choice “because the academy recognizes not only the excellent TV programs and actors from the Philippines but also the outstanding achievements of ABS-CBN under her watch.”

Her appointment will have Santos-Concio open the International Emmys Awards Gala at the New York Hilton with a welcome speech.

Joining Ma’am Charo in this very #PinoyPride moment is Kapamilya actor Piolo Pascual, who will be the first Filipino presenter ever at the iEmmys.

But this is not the first time Piolo has been associated with the iEmmys. Six years ago, at the 37th International Emmys, his teleserye Lobo was nominated in the awards.

“Pride, honor, you know being in the business [that] I love and having this kind of gift is a reward,” Pascual said about being a presenter.

“I just hope it opens doors for other showbiz people to be able to penetrate the international scene,” Pascual added.
