LTO will now require NBI clearance for professional drivers

The LTO is taking cute baby steps to improvement, but hey. Those are steps nevertheless!

To ensure that applicants are qualified drivers and to allow authorities to check an applicant’s records of law violations, the Land Transportation Office will now be requiring drivers applying and renewing their professional driver’s license to submit NBI and police clearances.

“Sinisigurado natin nab ago sila humawak ng manibela, lalung-lalo na yung pampublikong sasakyan, ay walang mga kaso,” LTO spokesperson Jason Salvador said told GMA News To Go.

Among the crimes they will look into are “crimes against moral servitude”.

According to the report, this new administrative order is just one of the new measures that LTO will implement to reform the process of issuing licenses, and therefore have qualified drivers plying the roads.

Other measures include having two different exams for applicants of professional and non-professional drivers license.

These new requirements, Salvador says, will not result in longer application process. Thank God.
