Oh no he didn’t! Duterte swears at Pope Francis during speech naming him PDP-Laban standard bearer

Oh no you didn’t, Digong!

In his speech after being named standard bearer of political party PDP-Laban, Davao Mayor Rodrigo Duterte recounted how he was caught in a traffic jam in Metro Manila during the visit of Pope Francis in January early this year.

He said he wanted to call the Catholic leader and swear at him.

“From the hotel to the airport, alam mo inabot kami ng… limang oras. Sabi ko bakit? Sabi pinasarado daw,” he said.

When a friend told him that the traffic jam was caused by road closures in preparation for the Pope’s arrival, he joked, “Gusto kong tawagan, ‘Pope p******* ka umuwi ka na. ‘Wag ka nang magbisita dito.”

This drew laughter from some of his supporters in the audience, but not everyone was amused.

Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda, not exactly the most-loved government official in the country, posted on Twitter: “Mayor Duterte, you can say all you want about politicians but you don’t curse my Pope Francis! #defendthepope,” Lacierda said on Twitter. With reporting from ABS-CBNnews.com
