Batangas mayor laughs off unfortunate design layout of poster

Facebooker JB Angeles found what could possibly be the worst layout job ever.

He spotted a tarpaulin in Batangas announcing that the municipality of Mataas na Kahoy was able to buy a piece of land for its market site.

There is a photo the proposed public market on the right side of the tarp. Below it is a huge yellow arrow and below that are the words “This is where our taxes go.”

But here’s the punch line: the arrow points to the photo of Mayor Jay Manalo Ilagan.

Oooops.

“It was an honest mistake. Wala kaming naisip na masama about it, because we simply wanted to point to the direction of the market site,” The mayor tells Coconuts Manila, saying he just laughed at the joke that the tarpaulin has become.

He admitted that the tarpaulin was badly designed and that unfortunately, he didn’t get to see the final layout before it was printed. “Sa dami rin kasi ng trabaho ko, and we were also working with our long-time suppliers,” Mayor Ilagan trailed off.

“Pero wala sa akin yan, kasi malinis kami,” he shrugs before highlighting his government’s achievements: Mataas na Kahoy is a DILG awardee of good governance. Under his leadership, the municipality has also managed to pay off their debts. “Ang mas nakakahiya, kung ma-COA kami,” he reasons good-naturedly.

Too bad the tarp overlooks the good news: In the 84 years that the municipality has existed, it is only during Mayor Ilagan’s term that the local government was able to buy a piece of land for a proper market. Mataas na Kahoy has only really had a small talipapa for a market, said Emma Montillana, senior administrative officer of the mayor’s office.

In any case, Mayor Ilagan said they’ve already removed the tarpaulin in question. He’s also already met with his staff to discuss their processes so that they can avoid future, erm, embarrassment.

“I also called our suppliers,” Ilagan continued. “They came to my office yesterday and they apologized. Of course, I accepted their apology. Tao lang sila, nagkakamali.

“In fact, may balance pa nga ako sa kanila, so binayaran ko na rin yung mga utang ko when they came in yesterday.”

Aww, how understanding!
