Best places to eat healthy in Metro Manila

Eating well in our city isn’t the easiest feat, but these shops, home deliveries and restaurants make it just that much easier to stick to our new year’s resolution of eating well and taking better care of our bodies.
 

Satinka Naturals

Just over a year old, Satinka Naturals sells organic comfort food from their two-storey corner café in Bgy San Antonio, Makati. The top floor, with cozy wooden chairs and a slew of plush pillows, is the perfect space to tuck into their eats such as Grilled Chicken Pesto (PHP189) as well as vegetarian and vegan specialties like Vegan Platter Gluten Free (PHP228) which features barbecue vegetable patties, beetroot meatballs, salad, zucchini pasta, and house-made vegan cheese. Susi

This Burgos Circle eatery is completely vegan and gluten-free, with a menu focusing on international favourites as well as a few Filipino dishes and some healthy juices and smoothies. The two-storey homey café, which boasts a beautiful sun room, has a menu with cheekily named dishes such as the Moby Dip(s) (PHP315), an appetizer consisting of olive tapenade, sun-dried tomato hummus, and pesto served with house-made toast, as well as the main of Mac & Geez (PHP295), comprised of macaroni tossed in a creamy vegan cheese sauce topped with fresh arugula and smoked paprika. ECHOStore

Although this environment-and community-conscious shop is known to most as ECHOStore, it also includes a health-focused café called; ECHOCafe, as well as a mini market of fresh produce named ECHOMarket. There are several branches, but its most complete outlet is in BGC. This space doles out some of the best products sourced from all corners of the Philippines such as natural supplements, chocolates, coconut sugar, kale chips and ice creams. The Green Grocer

The Green Grocer drops off meats, dairy products, fruits, herbs, and vegetables from their farms in Tagaytay, Bukidon, Batangas, and Laguna right to your doorstep. But in addition to their items, more products from other brands are available: Bebo’s Famous Chili, Carmencity Green Pepper, Fog City ice cream and Trader Joe’s Organic Tricolor Quinoa. Mara’s Original Market

Organic food activist and businesswoman Mara Pardo de Tavera is a well-known figure in the GMO-free and organic food scene in the Philippines. Her brick and mortar shop on Amorsolo Street stocks some of the best organic produce from farms across the country. But for the freshest supply, stop by the Mara’s Original Market section at the Legazpi Sunday Market. Sprout

Erwan Heussaff’s healthy to-go food shop, Sprout, offers healthy food and drinks which are made in house, alongside more snacks, ice creams, and health supplements by some of the country’s best purveyors. The selection here is vast and changes on the daily, but you can look forward to healthful eats like Spicy Tuna Chirashi Bowl (PHP221), Kale and Roasted Vegetable Quesadilla (PHP230), Miso Salmon Maki (PHP141), and Thai Chopped Salad (PHP158). DowntoEarth

With all their produce coming from a family farm in Bukidon, DowntoEarth is able to ensure the best quality meats and produce which are free of chemical, pesticide, antibiotic and hormone, and grown using biodynamic agriculture practices. The farm has a presence at Salcedo Market, Mara’s Original Market, ECHOStore, and Sugarleaf, but their stand-alone shop on Yakal Street offers their widest selection. Available are meats in various cuts such as beef, pork, lamb, and chicken; edible flowers such as hibiscus and dill blossoms; micro greens; artisanal vegetables; and house-made teas, jams, and sauces.
