There certainly is a ton load to look forward to at the fourth edition of Art Fair Philippines.
To begin with: There are now 40 participating galleries spread across a culumative area space of 6,374 square meters (that’s two and a half floors, baby!) in The Link Carpark in Makati.
On Wed, Jan 19, organizers of Art Fair Philippines shared what they have in store for the fair’s fourth edition, happening from Feb 18 to 21. See them below:
1. Guided tours. Ah, the one thing we’re most excited about. Art Fair Philippines has partnered with the Museum Foundation of the Philippines for a series of tours across the city.
On Fri, Feb 19, a shuttle will head out to Quezon City for a guided tour of the Vargas Museum in UP Diliman, the Ateneo Art Gallery, and the Lopez Museum and Library.
On Sat, Feb 20 it heads out to the city of Manila for guided tours of the Museum of Contemporary Art and Design at the De La Salle University, the Cultural Center of the Philippines, and the Metropolitan Museum of Manila.
On Sun, Feb 21, the shuttle will go to Pinto Art Museum in Antipolo.
The meeting place for these guided tours will always at The Link at 10am, and they finish at 5pm.
“But every day, there will be shuttles for people who would like to go to the National Museum (10am) as well as daily guided tours to the Ayala Museum at 3pm,” says Albert Avellana of the Museum Foundation of the Philippines.
Organizers highly recommend for guests to pre-book these guided tours here, which come at a cost, inclusive of the admission to the Art Fair proper.
2. Talks and lectures. Art Fair Philippines has teamed up with the Ateneo Art Gallery for a series of talks, lectures, discussions and panels.
At the on set, they’ve scheduled talks twice a day for every day of the fair. According to Ateneo Art Gallery Managing Curator Yael Buencamino, guests can expect panels on installation art, contemporary photography, art insurance, among others.
3. Hang out the lecture lounge. A space will be carved out at The Link specially for these lectures. “And when there’s no lecture, the space will be made available for people to lounge around and read all the publications that will bemade available.
A bar will also be set up, so people can get a cup of coffee or have a drink. With the Straits Wine Company, Don Papa Rhum and Kai Japanese restaurant coming in as sponsors, you know that bar will be well-stocked. “We really just want them to be comfortable and take it all in,” shares one of the organizers Lisa Periquet.
4. The eight special exhibits during the fair. Brisbane-based Filipino husband and wife tandem Alfredo and Isabel Aquilizan leads the special exhibits of the fair. Also included in the lineup are Mark Justiniani, Martha Atienza, Nona Garcia, Raffy Napay, Mac Valdezco and Pamela Yan Santos.
5. A special focus on contemporary photography. Apart from the lined up panel on photography, the fair will put focus on contemporary photography.
Ahead of the fair, at 6pm on Feb 16, will be the opening reception of a special curated exhibition at the Ayala Museum. The World We Live in: Through the Lens of Contemporary Photography features five lensmen: Sebastião Salgado, Steve McCurry, Robert Polidori, Edward Burtynsky and Annie Leibovitz.
For the first-time ever has included a photographer in its Special Exhibition program. We cannot wait to see esteemed lensman At Maculangan’s exhibit.
6. Gabriel Barredo’s Opera as Ballet. Ballet Philippines has created a performanced based on and inspired by Opera, the incredible installation by Filipino artist Gabriel Barredo, which was, by the way, premiered in the very first Art Fair Philippines in 2013. Opera the ballet is choreographed by Redha from a libretto by Yvette Tan and Erwin Romulo featuring music by Malek Lopez. 8pm. Feb 13, 14,16. CCP Main Theater. Ticketworld. Tickets start at PHP400.
