Wanted: Dasmariñas Village serial cat killer

A serial cat killer is on the loose in Makati’s Dasmariñas Village.

There has been an alarming number of “unexplained disappearances/deaths of cats” in the exclusive subdivision the past few weeks, according to a circular released by village management on Jan 25.

“In the latest horrific instance, paint thinner was cruelly poured over the cat who died a slow and painful death from chemical burns,” it said. Around 12 community cats have either gone missing or been found dead.

The circular also warned residents to be careful of their security after the person who has been in charge of feeding the cats the past 40 years discovered a note on his car. It was allegedly left by the serial killer. It read, “You stop feeding cats!! Our village is no cat sanctuary. Or else…”

Unbeknownst to many, Dasmariñas Village has an animal welfare committee that has been dutifully looking after its stray cat population.

Since 2002, it has been participating in CARA Welfare’s Trap-Neuter-Return program.

Animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is offering a reward of up to PHP50,000 for information leading to the identification and conviction of whoever is responsible.

“Animal abusers are a danger to everyone: They take their issues out on whomever is available to them, human or nonhuman, and must be caught before they act again,” said PETA Asia vice president for international operations Jason Baker.

“We’re appealing to anyone with information about those responsible for these cruel crimes to come forward now so that the perpetrator or perpetrators can be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he said.

Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to call the PETA Asia hotline at +63 999 8887382.
