NAIA Janitor returns USD4400 to balikbayan

NAIA is notoriously newsworthy for all the wrong reasons, but this airport employee is giving his workplace a bit of good press by returning USD4400 to its rightful owner.

On February 4, custodian Bobby Duarte turned over a belt bag containing the money to the airport’s lost and found section.

The bag was then returned to its rightful owner, 71-year old balikbayan Reynaldo Bautista. Bautista was a passenger at Philippine Airlines flight PR 105 from San Francisco. He was identified through the IDs in his bag.

Though Duarte only earns PHP12,000, it never crossed his mind to keep the money for himself.

“Hindi po ako mayaman subalit hindi naman po ako pinababayaan ng Diyos sa lahat ng aking kailangan. (I am not rich, but the Lord provides for my needs).” Duarte said in an interview with ABS-CBN news.

Bautista visited Duarte in his workplace to personally thank him for returning the money.

NAIA Terminal 1 manager Dante Basante said that he will recommend Duarte to the Praise Board for his exemplary honesty.
