Perhaps this boy needs a history review for him to remember what the Philippine flag symbolizes.
Or maybe he needs a quick lesson on criminal law?
An unidentified student is now in hot water for using the Philippine flag to mop the floor of his classroom.
The face of the boy can’t be seen clearly in the video on the Facebook page Filipino Netizens, but he is probably in high school. He was even wearing his school ID.
While the boy seemed to enjoy what he was doing, his classmates called him out for his actions. Someone even called him “Gago! (Stupid!)”.
In the comments section, the online community was quick to criticize the boy.
Republic Act No. 8491 states that “it shall be prohibited to mutilate, deface, defile, trample, on or cast contempt any act or omission casting dishonor or ridicule upon the flag over its surface.”
Offenders may be fined between PHP5,000 and PHP20,000 and/or jailed for not more than a year.
We assume that he was only playing, but ignorance of the law excuses no one. This boy should be a given a lesson of sorts.
