Fringe Manila 2016: Dare to go where no art festival has gone before

“Fringe.”

Before a hit TV series linked the word to aliens and parallel universes, it actually meant “unconventional,” “extreme,” or “not mainstream.”

Fringe Manila 2016 promises something experimental, out-of-the-box, and radical. This boundary-breaking art festival challenges your ideas and makes you think.

Nothing is sacred. Nothing is censored.  No discrimination against any group.

The organizers’ “open-access” approach gives the artists total freedom in creating, producing, and marketing their show.

What they encourage is a collaboration of ideas and a celebration of Manila’s diversity.

Just take a look at a few of what’s in store.

Caritas X Damaso, UP Rep’s controversial musical on religion.

Eyes Wide Shut, a burlesque performance by Joyen Santos, the “only openly practicing rope-bondage dominatrix” in Manila.

Trance Till Dawn, the music of all things trance from Progressive Trance, Psytrance, to Tech Trance.

Awakening, where the audience gets to be part of the story in this horror-thriller that is performed in an actual old manor in Cubao.

Take a deep breath, plunge, and you won’t come out the same on the other side.

Fringe Manila 2016 runs until Feb 28. For more information, go to the festival’s Facebook page
