Poe forced to defend son Brian’s ‘Back to the Future’ shoes

On Fri, Feb 12, Senator and presidential candidate Sen. Grace Poe defended her son, Brian, for buying a pair of 2011 Limited Edition Nike Mag 10 shoes since, she said, Brian has the purchasing capacity and right to choose what he wants.

The 2011 Limited Edition Nike Air Mag 10 shoes are a replica of the pair featured in the 1989 film Back to the Future Part II, as worn by lead character Marty McFly (played by Michael J. Fox). According to various reports, the shoes have been sold from USD$3,500 (around PHP166,232) to USD$10,000 (around PHP474,950). Some pairs have reportedly fetched higher prices.

A Facebook page called Ayaw Ko Poe alleges that the shoes are USD$19,999 (around PHP902,405).

“Poe said she is aware of the accounts circulating recently on social media about her son and his expensive shoes,” reports Ernie Reyes on InterAksyon.com.

Poe was quoted as saying, “He saved up for that a long time. Even if assuming I was not agreeable to it, it made him happy. He has a right to it. Why should we stand in the way? He is a private citizen who deserves his privacy.”
