Soldiers rescue Philippine Hawk Eagle

All animals deserve to be rescued.

Members of the 85th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army rescued two Philippine hawk eagles, locally known as lawin, at an abandoned hut in Quezon province last week.

Lt. Shiela Mae Enderez, 85th IB civil-military officer, said the eagles were weak when they were found.

The hawk eagles were turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Just last month, an eagle with a bullet wound in the chest was turned over to the DENR for treatment. Unfortunately, it died after a few hours.

The number of Philippine hawk eagles is dropping slowly, so their population is considered vulnerable. It is included on the list of endangered species in the country.
