Weekend Warrior: Things to do in Metro Manila on the weekend of Feb 26 to Feb 28

1. Experience history (in a cool museum)

Feb 26. The People Power Experiential Museum gives a glimpse of daily life during the Marcos era. Experience dictatorship from a safe distance in this pop-up museum built in commemoration of the EDSA Revolution’s 30th anniversary. 8am-12mn. Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City. Free but registration is a must

2. Experience history (in a different kind of party)

Feb 27. Make the city come alive with Manila Transitio 1945 (now on its 7th year!), Carlos Celdran’s historic party! Enjoy art performances, open-air music, a video installation Surrounded yourself with creative individuals who use history to call for change. 6:30pm onwards. Manila Transitio 1945. Fort Santiago, Intramuros. Suggested minimum donation PHP500

3. Attend an IELTS Fair

Feb 27. Been wanting to know what it’s like to work abroad? Open your eyes to what the world has to offer with the British Council’s first ever IELTS fair. This is a good chance to talk to people from language and review centers, immigration firms, and education agents. Who knows? You might find your career (or lovelife) luck outside Manila! 12pm-5pm. 4. Attend a music event with a can of softdrink in hand

Feb 27. Gather your homies and watch SpongeCola, The Cheats, Up Dharma Down, Autotelic and even Alden Richards at Circuit Makati’s events grounds. It’s Coca-Cola’s Taste the Feeling festival! Best thing about it? It’s absolutely free. 3:30pm onwards. Circuit Makati Event Grounds, Makati City.  Entrance is free

5. Watch Constellations (the play, not the celestial bodies)

Feb 27 and 28. It’s the last two weekends of Red Turnip’s Constellations starring JC Santos and Chris Villonco! Even critics have nothing but good words for the play! It’s a love story full of depth, emotion and artistry. Certainly wouldn’t hurt if you bring a special someone with you. 4pm & 9pm. PowerMac Center Spotlight Center, Circuit Makati. Starts at PHP1881

6. Go stargazing (real stars this time)

Feb 27-28. Make a wish upon a million stars in the Mind Museum Astro Camp.  Learn about the cosmos and sleep under the sparkly nightime sky. The overnight stargazing activity will be hosted by the Mind Museum at Lake Caliraya, Laguna. 7am onwards; JY Campos Park, 3rd Avenue, Bonifacio Global City. +63 2 9096463. 7. Make your own chocolate

Feb 27-28. Now doesn’t that sound like a dream come true? Learn to grow, propagate, harvest and market cacao in this 2-day course complete with hands-on exercises. They say that cacao is the next big thing in business, but even if you don’t have an entrepreneurial spirit, growing chocolate still sounds like a goood thing to learn. 8am-5:15pm. 8. Make art

Feb 27. Learn art from the expert multi-media artist Plet Bolipata. Study her techniques in creating one-of-a-kind designs using unconventional materials. Enjoy collaborating with her as you craft your very own miniature animal sculpture. 1pm-5pm; Ayala Museum, Makati City. PHP1,200.  

9. Learn Kizomba, the African Tango

Feb 27-28. Get your dancing shoes and attend this interesting 2-day Kizomba workshop. The movement of the African Tango is similar to Samba with a simple 4/4 rhythm. It’s the next best thing to flying to Africa to learn this slow and sensual dance. 3pm-6:30pm. Dancing Queen, Makati Cinema Square, Makati. PHP7,000. 

10. Attend a flower festival

Ongoing. In the mood for a long drive? Well, you might as well go to Baguio to attend this year’s flower festival! The month-long Pinagbenga celebration opened last Feb 1 but the highlight parade will happen this weekend.
