Holi Festival 2016: Have a colorful celebration of love and hope

The annual Holi Festival is the perfect opportunity to bring out your inner child.

Celebrated all around the world, it’s also known as the festival of colors because the highlight of the event is throwling gulal powder (colored corn starch) up in the air and at each other to symbolize love and friendship. The origin of the festival has different variations, but the sentiment is all the same, it’s all about spreading love, abundance and joy!

This year in Metro Manila, the Holi Festival starts with a live show featuring traditional Indian and Bollywood songs by DJ CJ Wasu. There will also be mehndi (henna) tattoo artists and people selling authentic Indian wares.

It’s also an opportunity to taste traditional Indian cuisine, with booths by restaurants like Kashmir, Bollywood, Rich Food, Green Dot and Saffron Plate.

The Holi festival erases differences, feuds and distinction. Everyone is welcome: rich or poor, young or old, children or elders. As Hindus would often say in the festival, “Bura na Mano, Holi hai!” (Don’t feel offended, it’s Holi!).

The 4th annual Holi Festival in Manila is on Mar 20, from 3:30pm-7:30pm, at SM by the Bay Central Park. Tickets via SM Tickets (PHP150, pre-event; PHP200, includes gulal powder). The event is co-organized by he Embassy of India, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce, Indian Ladies Club, and SingIndia Music of the Soul. Coconuts Manila is a media partner.
