Gov’t not responsible for crazy LRT incident: DOTC

So if the government is not responsible, who is?

Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) Secretary Abaya said that the maintenance and regulation of LRT-1 has already been turned over to concessionnaire Light Rail Manila Corp (LRMC). This makes LRMC responsible for the crazy LRT door incident posted by James Cubelo on Facebook.

Based on Cubelo’s account, the door of the LRT did not close even when the train started moving, putting commuters at risk.

“Kagabi pa inumpisahan ang imbestigasyon sa insidenteng ito, (Investigations on this matter already started last night)” said Sec Abaya in an interview with DZrH.

According to Abaya, LRMC committed a grave violation of the concessionaire agreement, and they may be suspended. He added that DOTC will demand an explanation for what happened.

For its part, the LRMC issued a public statement about the issue… on Twitter.

According to the Tweet posted on Mar 11 at around 7am, LRMC “has a policy that no train with a door fault should leave the station or the depot”. (Good to know!)

They added that the issue is being “invesigated, addressed and corrected to ensure the safety of the passengers.”

Here’s a screenshot of their 60-word statement.
