2 Makati bars included in Asia’s 50 Best list

A cocktail isn’t just a cocktail, just as a bar isn’t just a bar.

That’s why we’re delighted with this inaugural list of Asia’s 50 Best Bars — what’s dope is that two establishments from Makati are part of it.

ABV took the 14th spot, while The Curator ranked 16th. Both bars are located in Makati

Who picked the winners? 154 of the most knowledgeable and most travelled members of the Asian bar industry formed the “Asian Academy.” They’re high-level bartenders, bar consultants, bar ambassadors and journalists.

The regional spin-off of the World’s 50 Best Bars “is designed to shine a light on the rapid development of bar culture in Asia,” said Hamish Smith, World’s 50 Best Bars editor.

ABV stands for Alcohol by Volume. It’s a prohibition-style speakeasy with an entrance hidden behind a small burger joint along Jupiter Street; such a stark contrast between a small food shack and a vintage-inspired bar!  They have unique Pinoy artisanal concoctions. If you’re interested in seeing the green fairy, a pretty wild absinthe collection is waiting for you. Check out their site for the password before heading there.

The Curator, on Carlos Palanca Street in Legazpi Village, is a coffee and cocktail lounge. In the morning, it is a purveyor of fine third-wave coffee, but it transforms to a haven of bottles, bitters, liquers, and whiskeys come night time. It has built a small, friendly community of loyal followers, but they welcome anyone looking for a good watering hole.

Serving American-style cocktails, 28 Hongkong Street in Singapore took the number one spot.
