McDo’s ‘Chicken ni Joy’ commercial makes people want to go to Jollibee

They went for subliminal advertising but looks like their plan backfired.

At first glance, nothing seems to be unusual with the latest McDo commercial.

The 30-second campaign starts by showing artistic shots of items resembling a chicken drumstick (guitar, light bulb, tennis racket). Then six women sharing the name “Joy” describes their favorite fried chicken. The campaign is called “Anong chicken ni Joy? (What’s Joy’s chicken?)”

So what’s wrong with it, exactly?

Most Filipinos thought that the advertisment is from Jollibee, who calls their best-selling chicken, Chicken Joy

Jollibee is a Filipino fastfood wonder famous for its chicken. It’s McDo’s biggest competitor in the country. Even Anthony Bourdain tried it out when he was here

McDonald’s is a global brand with a pretty solid reputation for creating heartwarming commercials (Remember, “Karen po, lolo“?). But looks like this one is an advertising flop.

Shots have been fired, Jollibee. We’re waiting for your answer. Or perhaps you could just enjoy your sales boost as McDonald’s already made an advertisement for you.
