PDP-Laban: If Duterte becomes President, Binay will be first ‘big fish’ in jail

They’re all bringing out the big guns.

Pundits have observed that Vice President Jejomar Binay seems to have intensified his verbal attacks against Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte after the latter topped the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) and Pulse Asia surveys.

Duterte’s political party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) has probbaly noticed this and they’re calling out Binay for it by way of a statement released by the group’s president, Sen. Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III on Wed, Apr 13.

As quoted in a Philippine Daily Inquirer report, the statement declared that if Duterte becomes President then “Binay would in all likelihood be the first big fish to be sent to jail.” The statement pointed out that there was “evidence of corruption against (Binay) during his stint as Makati mayor for more than 20 years.”

He said a Duterte administration would spare no one, regardless of social status or political affiliation, in a relentless campaign against crime and corruption.

Pimentel said: “The platform of [government] presented to the people by Mayor Duterte and his running mate, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, guarantees equality under the law. That does not mean the rich and the powerful can get away with murder and mischief and steal from the public coffers with impunity.”

He added, “Binay can very well afford to get the best lawyers to defend himself against charges of plunder filed by the Office of the Ombudsman after the May elections, when he will not only be jobless, but quite possibly also facing trial for a capital crime.”
