Paul Biteng, the alleged hacker of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) website, was arrested by National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) operatives on Wed evening, Apr 20. He was arrested at his home in Sampaloc, Manila.
Biteng is now facing charges for violating the Anti-Cybercrime Law
Reports say he is part of a three-member group who claimed responsibility for defacing the Comelec website on Mar 27. His two other cohorts remain at large as of this posting.
Biteng, 20, graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree earlier this month. A Manila Bulletin report by Tessa Distor reveals that he studied at the Perpetual Help College of Manila.
Biteng, who identifies himself as a “security researcher,” was cited in Microsoft’s Security Researcher Acknowledgments page in June 2014. Facebook likewise thanked him in its Security Hall of Fame annoucement that same year.
If proven guilty of malicious intent for hacking the Comelec website, Biteng faces up to six years in jail.
