This season’s biggest box office battle is not between comic book superheroes — it’s between Star Cinema and Viva Films.
Star Cinema just announced that its movie Just The 3 of Us, which stars John Lloyd Cruz and Jennylyn Mercado, is scheduled to hit theaters on May 4.
The movie was originally scheduled the movie to be shown on Wed, Apr 27.
The change in schedule is perhaps Star Cinema avoiding direct competition with one of Hollywood’s biggest summer movies, Captain America: Civil War, which will be released locally tomorrow, several days before the US release date.
But by doing so, it goes head-to-head with another Filipino movie, James Reid and Nadine Lustre’s This Time.
Both movies offer unique selling points. Just The 3 Of Us is ABS-CBN actor John Lloyd’s first romantic movie with a leading woman from rival network GMA. This is also the first time Jennylyn — who is fast becoming rom-com royalty thanks to the success of her movies English Only, Please and #Walang Forever — is doing a movie with Star Cinema
This Time, produced by Viva Films, is James and Nadine’s fourth movie together, and their first since announcing that they are a real-life couple.
It’s interesting to see if competing with another Pinoy movie will be beneficial for both the John Lloyd Cruz-starrer and the JaDine movie, or if Star Cinema would be better off going head-on with Marvel.
Well, James Reid did say competition is a necessity, right?
