Singapore Embassy seeking legal advice on misleading posts about Duterte and PM Lee

Supporters of this year’s presidential elections went all out with their campaigns on social media. Black propaganda and false information spread like wildfire on the interwebz.

The Singapore Embassy in Manila got word of a misleading online post where Prime Minister Lee Hsien-Loong was said to be supporting the presidential bid of Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

Now they want to see heads roll.

On Apr 22, they first made their first post.

“The Embassy has learned of an FB post mischievously alleging that the Prime Minister of Singapore endorses a presidential candidate for the upcoming presidential election in the Philippines. This is untrue. Singapore does not endorse any candidate. The choice is for Filipinos alone to make. We wish the Philippines well in the conduct of its elections,” the embassy said.

Yesterday, Apr 25, they followed up their Facebook post with another status emphasizing that they are now seeking legal advice.

“The Embassy takes a serious view of the misleading FB post. We are seeking legal advice. We also request the immediate removal of the post, which is a clear misrepresentation,” the embassy added.

Last week, a photo of Prime Minister Lee with the caption “Mayor Rodrigo Duterte is the only presidential candidate that could make Philippines like Singapore. Clean, efficient and disciplined,” circulated on social media. It is still being shared as of writing.
