Former Maguindanao town mayor surrenders, faces murder charge

The cycle of violence seems neverending.

“On Wed morning, Apr 27, after almost two years of hiding, Zahara Ampatuan, former mayor of Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao, voluntarily surrendered to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit-Central Mindanao in Cotabato City,” reports Albashir Saiden on ABS-CBNnews.com.

Zahara is the wife of another former Shariff Aguak mayor, Anwar Ampatuan, who is one of the detained principal suspects in the Nov 23, 2009 massacre of 58 people.

Zahara is tagged as the alleged mastermind behind the Apr 3, 2014 killing of Alfredo Amelista, who was secretary of Shariff Aguak’s municipal council. The warrant of arrest was issued by Judge George Jabido of the Regional Trial Court branch 12 in September 2014 for Ampatuan’s arrest.

The report noted: “Two other suspects, Kanurin Tayuan and Rambo Guiasalin, the allged gunmen, are still at large. Ampatuan remains at the custody of the CIDG.”
